Michel Bohn, a partner at VLP Law Group LLP, advises VC-backed startups, growth companies, and mid-to-large-cap companies. His practice covers a wide range of technical legal areas, including artificial intelligence, data privacy, data security, consumer protection, contracting, licensing, and intellectual property protection and enforcement (patents, copyrights, and trademarks). Michel's representative clients include companies specializing in artificial intelligence, robotics, complex hardware and systems, and enterprise and consumer software.
Michel frequently represents companies in complex business transactions, such as financings, mergers, stock sales, and asset sales. He also helps companies become deal-ready by optimizing their operations and legal frameworks, positioning them for successful transactions. This includes assisting with the design and implementation of robust legal and compliance frameworks to ensure adherence to laws and regulations concerning artificial intelligence, data privacy, consumer protection, security, fraud, export compliance, and know-your-customer (KYC) requirements.
Michel has deep experience drafting and negotiating all forms of agreements critical to technology companies. This includes service and subscription agreements (like MSAs, SLAs, and order forms); vendor, partner, and agency agreements (such as reseller, referral, and integration agreements) that drive strategic growth; and data and IP licensing or development agreements that protect and commercialize core technology and/or data.
As a registered patent attorney, Michel provides strategic guidance on patent portfolio development, preparation, prosecution, and enforcement. He has extensive experience drafting and prosecuting patent applications before the United States Patent and Trademark Office, securing protection in foreign jurisdictions, and advising clients on various IP matters, including patentability, freedom-to-operate, validity, and infringement opinions. His practice also extends to managing IP due diligence for corporate transactions and developing robust enforcement strategies to protect valuable innovations. Michel is a mechanical engineer and worked for several years in software and semiconductor engineering at IBM’s Systems and Technology Group before attending law school.
Prior to joining VLP, Michel worked at firms headquartered in the Bay Area, Virginia, and Munich, Germany. He is admitted to the Utah State Bar, the State Bar of Virginia, and the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
