David Lawson is a Partner, a member of the firm’s Executive Committee and Co-Chair of the Commercial Lending Practice Group. David represents financial institutions in a wide range of financing transactions, including structuring, preparing and negotiating loan documents in connection with secured and unsecured credit facilities, loan workouts and restructurings.
David has over 25 years of experience representing some of the Country’s most prominent financial institutions lending to high tech companies, life science companies and borrowers in a wide array of other industries, as well as an extensive knowledge of the intellectual property, life science, warrant and other issues that arise in those deals. David’s practice involves both domestic and multi-national transactions, including transactions involving borrowers located in the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, Ireland, Israel, the Netherlands and the Cayman Islands. David’s transactions range in size from $1 million to several hundred million dollars and he works with clients located throughout the United States, including California, Colorado, Georgia, Maryland, Massachusetts, North Carolina, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Texas, Virginia and Washington.
Prior to joining VLP, David was a Partner in the Lending and Structured Finance Group of Troutman Sanders LLP, and prior to that, was a member of the Credit Finance Group of Cooley LLP, both in their Palo Alto, California office and their Reston, Virginia office.
David received his law degree from the University of Southern California and his bachelor’s degree from Dartmouth College. David played collegiate baseball at Dartmouth College, coached the South Lakes High School JV baseball team in 2013, and continues to play in multiple local baseball leagues in Northern Virginia.
