Ben Carroll is a registered patent attorney with a practice focus provided strategic patent counseling to VC-backed startups and individual inventors. He has significant experience in strategic US patent filings, foreign filing recommendations, and design patent strategies.
Ben enjoys working closely with inventors to bring company goals to fruition. With an expertise in both utility and design patents, he has guided companies of various sizes as they grow international patent portfolios. He has technical expertise in a variety of software and hardware technologies including: network security; machine learning; application performance monitoring; front and back-end software systems; blockchain; data management and processing; product configuration and design; embedded systems; consumer electronics; mobile applications; GPS mapping; optics; and digital electronics.
Prior to joining VLP, Ben earned his B.S. in Electrical Engineering and a law school degree from the University of Utah. While earning his law degree, Ben participated in the Lassonde New Ventures program in assisting start-up companies to proceed to market. After law school, Ben worked at a Bay Area IP boutique. In his spare time, Ben enjoys backpacking and fishing.
