Kenneth Nee is a partner specializing in fund formation and investment management. His practice focuses on representing private investment firms in all aspects of the structuring, formation, and ongoing management of private investment funds and their respective management companies. He also has significant experience representing institutional investors actively investing in private investment funds.
Ken’s practice focuses on all stages and types of private investment fund formations, including venture capital, growth equity, buyout, fund-of-funds, private credit, hedge funds, and non-traditional funds (e.g., feeder and access funds). Ken advises sponsors on every aspect of their funds business, including the structuring, marketing, operating, and compliance of their private funds. Ken also represents institutional investors, including public employee pension plans and university endowments, in connection with investments in private funds, alternative investment vehicles, co-investments, direct investments, the formation of single investor funds and separately managed accounts.
Prior to joining VLP, Ken was the Head of Fund Formation at Scissero, an AI and tech-enabled legal services firm, where he directed the company’s investment fund-related solutions and oversaw a team of attorneys leveraging the firm’s technology to efficiently represent its fund sponsor clients. Prior to joining Scissero, Ken spent seven years at the international law firm of Foley & Lardner in their Fund Formation & Investment Management Practice Group.
Ken received his law degree from Suffolk University Law School, while working full-time as a paralegal at Mintz Levin in Boston, and his bachelor’s degree from The Villanova School of Business, where he met his wife, Christina. Outside of work, Ken enjoys spending time with Christina, their two children and their dog, Petey; playing golf, hockey, softball and curling; and cheering on the Bruins, Patriots, Red Sox, Celtics and Villanova Basketball.

One of my favorite weekends every year is playing in the Pond Hockey Classic on Lake Winnepesaukee in New Hampshire with some lifelong friends. The tournament is played on 26 rinks built on Meredith Bay with around 275 teams competing each year. The allure of the weekend is as much about the team camaraderie and the nostalgia of playing on the pond as kids as it is about the competition, but we'd be lying if we said we aren't all still chasing the feeling of lifting the Cup in 2020.
