Melody Torbati is a seasoned technology and business transactions partner with over 20 years of experience advising clients in a broad range of verticals. Melody advises clients on business and intellectual property matters across the technology spectrum, negotiates commercial and intellectual property agreements, and helps clients safeguard their intellectual property. Melody also serves as fractional associate general counsel for several clients.

Melody counsels clients ranging from emerging companies to public companies in a wide variety of industries such as generative and agentic AI, Fintech, Govtech, drones/robotics, SaaS, platform-as-a-service, aerospace and consumer products. Melody regularly negotiates agreements for clients on either side of the transaction and will counsel clients to strategically obtain the most favorable deal terms. Melody has extensive expertise in a broad range of commercial agreements, including data licensing agreements, IP/technology license agreements, app terms, system implementation agreements, manufacturing agreements and distribution agreements.

For the first half of her career prior to joining VLP, Melody served as Of Counsel at Morrison & Foerster in the firm’s Technology Transaction Group during which Melody worked with medium-sized to public companies on their complex commercial deals. Melody is a California native who received her B.S. from the University of California, Los Angeles and her J.D. from its rival University of Southern California.
