David Thibodeau is a Partner and former co-chair of our Intellectual Property Practice Group. His work focuses on building and refinement of patent portfolios, strategic advice regarding competitor rights, and due diligence in technology-driven business transactions.
David represents company founders, investors, engineers and scientists in diverse technology areas such as wireless devices and their applications, artificial intelligence, medical devices, cloud computing, financial services, robotics, semiconductors, optics, and antennas. Before joining VLP, David was a partner at several Boston-area IP boutique firms, and served in-hous as General Counsel of AirNet Communications, and as an in-house patent attorney at Raytheon Company.
David received his law degree, cum laude, from Suffolk Law School, and his Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute with high distinction. Before law school David was an engineer first at IBM and then Sanders Associates (now BAE Systems).
He is a former President of the Boston Patent Law Association and served many years on the faculty at Franklin Pierce Law School (UNH). David is repeatedly chosen by his peers for inclusion in Best Lawyers in America and in Super Lawyers.
When not sailing a 50 year-old wooden catboat, or fixing something at the cabin on Cape Cod, David mostly enjoys watching his children and now grandchildren grow – much too fast!
