Doreen Trujillo is a partner specializing in patent law. She has spent decades obtaining high value patents for her clients. Doreen prosecuted the US patents that cover three FDA-approved biologics having a combined US market of around two billion dollars annually.
Doreen represents clients of all sizes from start-ups to publicly traded companies. In addition to prosecution, Doreen has experience in opinion preparation, licensing, due diligence and litigation. She has prosecuted patent applications in the United States and abroad. She has participated in administrative proceedings before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board of the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office, both ex parte appeals and interferences. Doreen has experience helping clients obtain patent term adjustment and patent term extension. Doreen has served as lead counsel on several appeals before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, and has argued before the Court on four occasions. One of those appeals lead to a precedential opinion -- In re Chapman, 595 F.3d 1330 (Fed. Cir. 2010). Doreen received her law degree from the University of Houston Law Center and her undergraduate degree in biology-chemistry from Juniata College, Pennsylvania. Doreen’s technical background is in the life sciences, including biotechnology. Before going to law school, Doreen was a research assistant at The University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston in a monoclonal antibody-producing laboratory. Her responsibilities included developing immunoassays. Doreen began her legal career in boutique intellectual property law firms. She served as the Vice Chair of the Prosecution Practice Group at one of those firms. Doreen's extensive experience enables her to advise clients strategically and to help them obtain robust patents.
